Contrary to popular belief, healthy skin is not about waging a war on oil. The oil is important. More important than we realise. Trouble is how much of it is produced. So does Oily Skin need Moisturizer?
If you have oily skin, you probably have given moisturizer a wide berth. First, for fear of looking shinier than you already are. Second, for fear of causing a breakout as a result of clogging your pores with moisturizer.
Believe it or not, oily skin DOES need a moisturizer. A light weight one. The more natural it is the better and safer.
Moisturization supplies your skin with the vital hydration which keeps skin supple and healthy. Good moisturizer balances out the pH level of your skin. Lack of it after cleansing sends dehydration or distress signals to your pores and leads to even greater oil production.
Heavy moisturizers result in shininess. Because they do not get absorbed, they end up clogging the pores. What comes next – sticky feeling, breakouts….
Good, light and natural moisturizers have a matte effect. One that is well absorbed into the skin and one that is non-comodogenic. Well absorbed meaning it doesn’t leave your skin shiny. Non-comodogenic meaning it doesn’t clog your pores.
Plant oils like Jojoba, Almond oil and Sunflower oil are great natural options. They are light in texture and non-comodogenic. Added benefits of plant oils are that they contain natural sterolins and sterols. All with holistic properties that result in overall skin softening experience.
Those with acne-prone oily skin should consider natural skincare products to battle acne and better control sebum production. Harsh chemical-laden products that work only for time do more harm that good in the long-run. Gentle cleansers coupled with light moisturizers can do wonders!
Will you now moisturize your oily skin?
